Troubleshooting a Configuration Manager Management Point

The Configuration Manager management point is the entry point into a Configuration Manager hierarchy from a client perspective. The client receives its Configuration Manager policies and advertisements from the MP and places its inventories and status there. As with all components, administrators have a choice of using status messages and/or log files to verify management point function.

You can view management point status in the Monitoring node of the console by checking components such as SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER or SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER. If you prefer using logs, then the following logs are key to verifying proper management point installation and function:

mpMSI.log
: This is the Microsoft Installer (MSI) log for the management point installation.
mpSetup.log :  This is the site-specific management point log, which shows which site and server the management point is configured to use.
mpcontrol.log : This log maintains the management point by reviewing and checking the management point availability and status.
