The Reporting Services point provides integration between Configuration Manager and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to facilitate report publishing and rendering. This is a big change in Configuration Manager 2012 R2; the reporting engine available in previous versions of Configuration Manager, classic reporting, is gone. SSRS integration was first introduced in Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and was available in parallel to classic reporting, providing customers time to adjust to the new (and long overdue!) approach to reporting.
SSRS integration just makes sense. Most people don’t enjoy reading through line after line of tabular reports and would prefer to encapsulate that same data in a graphical format. SSRS can handle most any reporting scenario with ease. If the SSRS role has not yet been added, you will need to select it in the Add Site System Roles Wizard.
1. Choose the site and server where the Reporting Services point will be located. If a Central Administration Site is in place, then it is a good choice as a site to host this site system role. It is also possible to install this role on a primary site or to install it in multiple locations. Which options you choose depends on the overall configuration of the hierarchy and reporting needs.

2. Select the role in the Add Site System Roles Wizard. Click Next to proceed to the Reporting Service Point page of the wizard, shown in Figure
3. On the Reporting Services Point page, provide the server name that is hosting the Configuration Manager database instance and also the database name.
The server listed here can be the same server hosting the Reporting Services server instance or a remote server.
4. Click Verify to confirm connectivity.
5. Then configure the reporting server component by providing the folder name where the reports will be stored along with the specific SQL Server instance hosting the Reporting Services and the authentication method that will be used for security validation.

Note that for this section there is no option to specify a server name because it is assumed the site system where the role is being configured is the server hosting the SSRS instance.
