Troubleshooting the Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point

The proper installation of the Asset Intelligence synchronization point is key to keeping your Asset Intelligence catalog up to date for use in Configuration Manager 2012 R2. This is also critical to communicate your requested updates to the catalog to Microsoft. To provide insights into the proper configuration of this role, the component status is available in the Monitoring node of the console and also by reviewing the following logs:

AIUSsetup.log This log tracks the installation of the Asset Intelligence synchronization point.
AIUSMSI.log This log tracks the specific MSI installation process detail for the Asset Intelligence synchronization point.
AIUpdateSvc.log This log tracks the ongoing operation of the Asset Intelligence synchronization point.

Installing Site System Roles : Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point

If you will be using Configuration Manager 2012 R2 for Asset Intelligence information, then you will likely want to install the Asset Intelligence synchronization point role. This role is available only at the CAS and is not required but is beneficial. Installing this role enables synchronizing of catalog updates from the Internet and also allows you to upload custom catalog requests and categorization information to Microsoft.

If the Asset Intelligence synchronization point has not yet been added, you will need to select it in the Add Site System Roles Wizard.

1. Choose the server where the Asset Intelligence synchronization point will be located.
2. Select the role in the Add Site System Roles Wizard.
3. On the Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point Settings page, select whether to use this system as the active system and, if you have a certificate, the UNC path where it can be found. Note that the use of a certificate is not required. This is shown in Figure

4. Once all configuration is complete, click Next to proceed to the Specify The Synchronization Schedule page. Here, configure the schedule you would like to use for synchronizing the catalog and also sending your update requests for the catalog to Microsoft. Typically, the default schedule is appropriate.
5. Once all configuration is complete, click Next through the wizard to complete installation.
