If you are using the Operating System Deployment feature of Configuration Manager, there is a step in the task sequence that will install the Configuration Manager client. The task sequence step Set Up Windows And ConfigMgr is required and will install the Configuration Manager client correctly in both the reference image and the real image. If you are using another imaging solution and need the Configuration Manager client installed in the reference image, follow these steps:

1.        Manually install the client.
2.        Stop the SMS Agent Host service by running NET STOP CCMEXEC.
3.        Remove the trusted root key and any other unique certificates. Remove the trusted root key by running CCMSetup RESETKEYINFORMATION = TRUE.
4.        Run SYSPREP.EXE.
5.        Capture the image.
